The
Baha'i Faith
~
-
The Baha'i Faith is 167 years
old as of March 2010. It is a world-religion whose purpose is
to unite all the races and peoples in one universal Cause and
one common Faith. The Bahá'i are followers of Bahá'u'lláh,
Who is promised to every religion. We believe that God has sent
various Messengers/Prophets/Manifestations to humanity over many
centuries. His Revelations to us continue and they progress as
we are able to understand them (John 16:12-14). Baha'u'llah says:
-
- Amongst the proofs demonstrating the truth of this Revelation
is this, that in every age and Dispensation, whenever the invisible
Essence was revealed in the person of His Manifestation, certain
souls, obscure and detached from all worldly entanglements, would
seek illumination from the Sun of Prophethood and Moon of Divine
guidance, and would attain unto the Divine Presence. For this
reason, the divines of the age and those possessed of wealth,
would scorn and scoff at these people.
(Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 179)
Every religion has similar Scriptures:
-
- Whenever and wherever there is decline of righteousness
and ascendance of unrighteousness, at that time I manifest Myself
in visible form. For the protection of the righteous and destruction
of the wicked, and for the sake of establishing righteousness
again, I Myself appear from time to time.
- Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 4:8 (about 1500 BCE)
-
- Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine
ears, and in the ears of all the people; The prophets
that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied both
against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and
of evil, and of pestilence. The prophet
which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall
come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD
hath truly sent him.
- Jeremiah 28:7-9 (about 1000 BCE)
-
- I am not the first Buddha Who came upon earth, nor shall
I be the last. In due time another Buddha will arise in the world,
a Holy One, a supremely enlightened One ... an incomparable Leader
of men ... He will reveal to you the same eternal truths which
I have taught you.
- (Buddha: taken from William Sears, Thief in the Night, p.
61)(about 500 BCE)
-
- Jesus told a parable about the efforts of God to send Prophets/Messengers
to the people. He noted that every time God sent one of these
Servants, those who were in charge of God's vineyard (i.e., the
administration of God's religion), those who were in charge (the
clergy) would reject God's Messengers. So God sent His Son. They
killed the Son. Then Jesus says that the Lord of the vineyard
would come and give the vineyard to others. The clergy of that
time who were listening to what Jesus said were not appreciative
of the words of Jesus:
-
- Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain
man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went
into a far country for a long time. And at the season he sent
a servant to the husbandmen and
but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. And again
he sent another servant: and they & sent him away empty.
And again he sent a third. Then
said the Lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my
beloved son and So they cast him
out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the
Lord of the vineyard do unto them? He shall
come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the
vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
- NT-Luke 20:9-16 (See also NT-Mark 12:1-12)
-
- As you know, the traditions of almost every people include
the promise of a future when peace and harmony will be established
on earth and humankind will live in prosperity. Baha'is believe
that the promised hour has come and that Bahá'u'lláh's
Teachings will enable humanity to build a new world. Bahá'u'lláh
says:
- That which the Lord hath ordained as the sovereign remedy
and mightiest instrument for the healing of all the world is
the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common
Faith. (Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p 62)
